I know you said alot of your needles break, I have a small leather working needle that has not broken at all, its nice sharp has a slight curve to it so it wont hurt your fingers either works great, also when dying the burlap I found that mixing 1/2 pack of demin blue and 1 pack of the golden makes a great light green
